Freeware vs. Paid-ware
Linux has been a substitute over Windows by companies and government offices. Why?
For those of you who don't know, Linux is a FREE operating system. One can easily download it over the Internet, or, request for a FREE CD over their website. It is very convenient for those who are couch potatoes (just like me).
Linux is supported by a community of software developers. They are not earning anything from what they release for public consumption which makes their job noble.
Not only that Linux is a free operating system, all of its softwares are free of charge. Although many would say that freeware is always worse than an original paid-for softwares, it is not true in this situation. Linux has its own version of Microsoft Office, which is called OPEN OFFICE. This software is fully compatible with MS Office and Apple Mac's iWork. Open Open office has many useful commands, just like Windows' just that, it is free. Linux is sounding good eh? And oh, one more thing. Linux is VIRUS FREE.
But although Linux is free and updates of its version are also free of charge, one thing that bugs me with Linux is that for a beginner, it might be hard to use. Moreover, Linux doesn't have ready support for your media files. Unlike Windows, where one can use it out-of-the-box, Linux needs severe downloading and upgrading before anyone could enjoy its full features. And for the lazy people out there like me, ITS NOT THAT GOOD.
For me, I prefer Windows over Linux for several reasons.
Downloading softwares in Windows isn't tiring. One can directly download any .exe files to any folder you want it to be saved. The case is different though for Linux. Downloading softwares can be a little confusing.
There is much more games in Windows than i Linux. CS, WOW, Battle Realms, Sims, you name it, it's most likely run on Windows. So there is much leisure time in Windows. When one gets bored, s/he could easily open a game on his/her PC while doing homework on Word, surfing the net using Chrome, and exchanging IMs on Yahoo! Messenger.
To sum up, Linux is more for the programmers and the like, Ordinary people who use computers on just the daily basis should choose Windows.
world is peaceful again.

Top 10 Software that I Frequently Use
I am a heavy user of my laptop and I frequently download stuff over the internet. I remember when I still use vista (which sucks big time) that I downloaded too many software over www.download.com. But then I have to delete some but here are still some that remained when I upgraded my OS to 7 (which still isn’t good enough for me).
1. VLC Media Player
This player became my best friend for some time. This big baby plays almost every kind of media: .flv, .mp3, .mpeg, etc. and DVDs. This can also be used in web streaming. This one is some hard core player. I favoured this because I am a music buff. I like to download mp3s and videos to my drive. When my download is complete, I quickly open this application and instantly play my downloaded file. In VLC, I can also manipulate and add audio effects. Something that Windows Media Player can’t do. But the best of its features is that this one is totally free!
2. Google Chrome
Having browsing problems and lagging problems in Mozilla? Or simply can’t wait for a browser to open because it takes too long? Google has solved your problems. Google chrome launches faster than any other browser. Its façade is simpler than any other browser. Easy to use and it is so compact. It has fewer bugs than other browsers too. Plus, it is for free.
3. Microsoft OneNote 2010
I am a college student and I really have to take down notes all the time. Often too much because I am sort of a messy person, I loose important notes almost all the time. This application helped me a lot in organizing and keeping notes. You can import many things in your notes like music, webpages, blogs, PowerPoint slides, and file printouts. For students or workers, or even just plain bored people this software is best for you.
4. iTunes
A perfect way to organize music, videos, movies, and music videos. On any platform, iTunes is the best music player. I love this because I can download music here – original ones – for free! It also has its own social network where one can follow their favorite artist and their co-fans.
5. Windows Live Writer 2011
I am a fan of Windows Live applications. This one is my favorite because I love blogging… before. One can put as many blog accounts as possible: tumblr, multiply, blogger, it supports almost all popular blogging sites. It is easy to navigate and use.
6. CCleaner
This freeware might be one of my top preferred software when it comes to utilities and operating systems software. It helps me clean up my PC and boost the speed of it. It keeps my PC from junk files and failed registries. This is a recommended software for heavy downloaders like me.
7. Vuze
Ah! Piracy. The locust in a rice field. Piracy is best done here. This torrent client is the best, at least for me. Vuze is so easy to navigate and use. Even a newbie and instantly understand the software immediately. This is the reason why my friends are so lagged behind TV airing of their favorite shows.
8. Skype
This ^ picture was taken from the skype website. Skype performs best it video conferencing. Skype was the medium when our group was too lazy to meet-up somewhere for a meeting. Great video and audio. But of course, it depends on the bandwidth that the user is using. But nonetheless, I love this application. This is the epitome of laziness. Epic!
9. Free Youtube Download (by DVDVideoSoft Free Studio)
Another great tool for pirating music videos from popular artist. This bad boy downloads even copyrighted videos in www.youtube.com and you can even choose the format of the video when you choose to download it.
10. WordWeb
This application is a Bible to all college students. This gives you instant meanings to a highlighted word in any open application. This is free so might as well download this. It has its own offline database which means that you don’t have to go online just to use this software. But it can also serve as an online reference if the user wishes to.
there you go!
Those were my top 10 software that I frequently use.
